Cervelo S5: Pure Speed
The Cervelo S5 is legendary for its speed and aerodynamic efficiency. The new S5 improved upon their existing platform but made it 124 grams lighter while maintaining the handling, poise, and stability that the S5 has always provided.
Over the weekend we saw Cervelo discreetly show off a prototype of the new S5 at the Tour de France. Jonas Vingegaard's new Cervelo S5 bike featured the new one-peice handlebar, new Reserve 57/64 Turbulent wheelset, 1X 12-speed Sram Red AXS, 52T chainring, and 10-36T cassette.

The Details Matter
Every tube on the frame has been redefined with the goal of increasing aerodynamic performance to design a fast bike that maintains its handling and ride quality, all while keeping the weight down and performance up. Improvements like the one-peice cockpit, cleaning up the front end, headtube and fork design deepened, all contributing to the new designs improved aerodynamics and descreased weight. From the hourglass shape of the headtube to strategic changes to carbon layups, Cervelo proves that all of the little details matter.
Here are some of the small details that make the difference:
- One-peice cockpit
- Deeper headtube and fork design
- Hourglass headtube shape
- Every tube on the frame redefined to increase aerodyanmic performance
- Strategic improvements to carbon layup
New Reserve 57/64 Turbulent Wheelset
Cervelo and Reserve worked together to co-develop the new Reserve 57/64 Turbulent wheelset specifically designed for the S5 frame. The offset of the wheels perfectly matches the asymmetry of the S5 seat tube, and they tuck right into the wheel cut outs. Ensuring that air flows smoothly over the entire bike, the approach makes them incredibly stable, even in crosswinds.
